Where was I when.....

I just found out that I was.....

27 years old at the time of the 9-11 attack on America
25 years old on the first day of Y2K
23 years old when Princess Diana was killed in a car crash
21 years old at the time of Oklahoma City bombing
20 years old when O. J. Simpson was charged with murder
19 years old at the time of the 93 bombing of the World Trade Center
17 years old when Operation Desert Storm began
15 years old during the fall of the Berlin Wall
12 years old when the space shuttle Challenger exploded
10 years old when Apple introduced the Macintosh
9 years old during Sally Ride's travel in space
7 years old when Pres. Reagan was shot by John Hinckley, Jr.
5 years old at the time the Iran hostage crisis began
2 years old on the U.S.'s bicentennial Fourth of July
not yet 1 year old when President Nixon left office

This got me to thinking about where I was and what I was doing during those years. The list above sounds so negative because it's a list of terrible things (most of them) that happened during my lifetime. When I look at the ages listed, I see what good things were happening in my life during those times.

2 years old--I was the only child and my parents were both living in the same house.
5 years old--I started Kindergarten and had a crush on a boy named Jeffrey.
10 years old--I went to girl scout camp for 2 weeks without my parents.
12 years old--My mother finally let me shave my legs for the first time.
17 years old--I was baptized and started dating my husband.
19 years old--I moved out of the house for the first time and graduated college.
21 years old--I worked in a daycare center and fell in love with tons of children.
23 years old--I got married.
27 years old--We had lived in the first house we bought for one year.

Okay, so here is something that I noticed....the first list is of kind of depressing things that were big and flashy enough to make the earth wobble, as far as the world was concerned. Your second list was of what is really important. Your memories of your family, inside your home, with the people you love the most, and the beginning of your walk with God. Events happen "out there" that affect us to a degree but what happens "in here" or in our hearts, minds, or homes is what makes us who and what we are.
Just thought I would share that.

Thank you very much for sharing, Stephanie. I appreciate your words and the fact that you decided to post them instead of just thinking about it.
